A case can be made that any of the Harry Potter movies are the best, but for me, it’s Prisoner of Azkaban. Here’s why.
Checkout this video:
The characters
The characters in this movie are so rich and layered. You have Sirius Black, who seems like a villain but is really just misguided. You have Peter Pettigrew, who is a traitor but also a victim. You have Remus Lupin, who is struggling with being a werewolf but is also one of the best teachers at Hogwarts. And you have Harry Potter, who is caught in the middle of all of this but is also trying to figure out his own identity.
The story
The story arc in Prisoner of Azkaban is significantly more complex than that in the first two movies. Not only is there the addition of the Marauders’ Map and Sirius Black’s escape from Azkaban, but we also see Harry struggle with his fear of Lupin, who he has been led to believe is a werewolf. This results in some truly powerful scenes, such as when Sirius changes back into a dog in front of Harry to prove that he is not a danger to him.
The story also benefits from some great performances. Gary Oldman is outstanding as Sirius Black, and Alan Rickman is as good as ever as Snape. David Thewlis also does a great job as Lupin, bringing both humor and pathos to the character. Emma Thompson is also excellent as Trelawney, adding an element of suspense to her scenes with her predictions of doom.
Finally, the ending of Prisoner of Azkaban is much more satisfying than that of the first two movies. Although it features one of the most talked-about plot twists in recent years, it nevertheless feels earned and logical. All in all, it makes for a very satisfying conclusion to an excellent movie.
The setting
Prisoner of Azkaban is the third installment in the Harry Potter series, and it is widely considered to be the best film in the franchise. There are many reasons why this is the case, but one of the most significant is the change in setting.
The first two Harry Potter movies took place largely at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but Azkaban sees Harry learning about the wizarding world beyond the walls of his school. This change in setting allows for a more expansive story, with more interesting characters and plot twists. It also gives the movie a darker, more mature tone that sets it apart from its predecessors.
The music
Many Potterheads believe that _Prisoner of Azkaban_ is the best film in the entire series for a number of reasons, but the music is one of the most commonly cited. It’s dark, it’s stirring, and it perfectly fits the tone of the film.
The cinematography
The cinematography in “Prisoner of Azkaban” is some of the best in any of the Harry Potter movies. The dark, gothic look of Hogwarts Castle and the surrounding countryside makes for a visually stunning film. The scenes in the Forbidden Forest are particularly well-done, creating a sense of foreboding and danger that is essential to the plot.
The acting
The acting in Prisoner of Azkaban is some of the best in the series. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson all give stand out performances in their roles as Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Radcliffe in particular shines in this movie, as his character is forced to deal with the weight of his past and the knowledge that Lord Voldemort is back. The supporting cast is also excellent, with many familiar faces from previous movies returning to reprise their roles.
The directing
Of all the Harry Potter movies, Prisoner of Azkaban is my favorite. I think it’s the best because of the change in directors. Cuarón brought a different feel to the movie and it made all the difference.
The first two Harry Potter movies were good, don’t get me wrong. But there was something about Cuarón’s direction that made Prisoner of Azkaban stand out. He brought a darkness to the movie that wasn’t there before. And it worked perfectly with the story.
What I love most about Prisoner of Azkaban is that it feels like a proper mystery. There are red herrings and false leads. It’s not just a straightforward good vs evil story. There are twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end.
I think Cuarón did a fantastic job with this movie and it’s definitely my favorite of the Harry Potter series.
The special effects
It is no secret that the special effects in the Harry Potter series have gotten better and better with each movie. However, the third movie, Prisoner of Azkaban, takes the cake with its amazing use of CGI to create realistic magical creatures and stunning environments. This is why many fans believe that it is the best movie in the series.
The overall experience
There are many reasons why Prisoner of Azkaban is the best Harry Potter movie. First and foremost, the movie is simply more enjoyable to watch than the other movies in the series. It’s more visually stunning, with better special effects, and a more interesting plot. Additionally, the acting is superb across the board – both by the main cast and by the supporting cast. The film also does a great job of building suspense and creating a feeling of foreboding throughout.
Why it’s the best Harry Potter movie
There are many reasons that Deathly Hallows Part 2 is considered by many to be the best Harry Potter movie, but there are just as many, if not more, reasons that Prisoner of Azkaban is the best movie in the series. Here are a few reasons why:
-The acting is superb across the board, with David Thewlis giving an especially stand-out performance as Professor Lupin.
-The cinematography and attention to detail are amazing, from the gloomy castle grounds to the suspenseful scenes in the Shrieking Shack.
-The plot is much darker and more complicated than any of the other movies, making it more engaging for adults as well as kids.
-John Williams’ score is perhaps his best work for the series, perfectly capturing the mood of each scene.
Of course, this is just a matter of opinion, but we think that Prisoner of Azkaban is not only the best Harry Potter movie, but one of the best movies period.
