Steven Spielberg
You might be surprised to learn that Steven Spielberg actually directed the first Transformers movie. He was brought on board by producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, who had optioned the rights to the Transformers franchise back in 2002. Spielberg was fresh off of directing War of the Worlds (2005), and he was looking for a new project.
Bonaventura convinced him that Transformers would be a perfect fit, and so Spielberg signed on to direct. He even personally pitched the idea to Michael Bay, who ended up directing the sequels.
It’s interesting to note that Spielberg is actually a big fan of the Transformers franchise. He grew up watching the original cartoon, and he even has a few Optimus Prime toys in his office.
