In Person

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is a 2015 American live-action/animated comedy film based on the Nickelodeon television series SpongeBob SquarePants. A sequel to The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie (2004), the film was directed by Paul Tibbitt in his directorial debut, from a screenplay by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. In the film, an evil pirate called Burger Beard (Antonio Banderas) steals the secret formula of a fast food restaurant called the Krusty Krab, and SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny) must retrieve it with the help of his friend Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke).

The film was produced by Paramount Animation, Nickelodeon Movies and United Plankton Pictures and distributed by Paramount Pictures. Previous showrunner Tibbitt served as both the executive producer and supervising producer while plot editor Kim Wage served as co-producer. The film grossed $323 million worldwide against its $74 million budget, making it the fifth highest-grossing animated film of 2015 and became one of three animated films (alongside Minions and Inside Out) to gross over $300 million worldwide in that year.

The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water was released in theaters on February 6, 2015 to generally positive reviews from critics; many praised its visuals, humor and references to pop culture but criticized its plot for being formulaic.
