In the first movie, Scott Calvin (Tom Hanks) is a workaholic advertising executive who neglects spend time with his son, Charlie (Eric Lloyd). On Christmas Eve, Scott accidentally kills Santa Claus (played by Tim Allen) after the jolly man topples from Scott’s roof. As the Santa Clause states, “When a person puts on the suit, they become Santa Claus.” Scott therefore dons the red suit and takes on the role of Kris Kringle.
At first, Scott is only interested in carrying out the duties of Santa so he can get his life back to normal. However, he slowly comes to enjoy being Santa and spends more time with Charlie as a result. Scott even starts to undergo some physical changes – he grows a beard and gains weight – that suggest he is becoming the new Santa.
The second movie picks up a few months after the first one ended. Scott is now fully committed to being Santa and has even built himself a workshop at the North Pole. However, his ex-wife, Laura (Wendy Crewson), has married Neal Miller (Judge Reinhold), a psychiatrist who does not believe inSanta. Charlie therefore believes thatSanta is not real and stops believing in him entirely.
To make matters worse, Scott learns that he must get married to Mrs. Claus (played by Elizabeth Mitchell) or else he will stop being Santa altogether. With Christmas fast approaching and Charlie’s belief inSanta at stake, Scott must hurry to find a wife before it’s too late!
The third movie sees Scott now married to Mrs. Claus and fully comfortable in his role as Santa. However, trouble arises when Neal Miller – Laura’s new husband – comes to visit the North Pole with his son Freddy ( Spencer Breslin). Freddy does not believe inSanta either and sets out to disprove his existence. This puts Charlie’s belief inSanta once again at risk and it is up to Scott to save Christmas!
